Caramels – Phyllis Miller

Ingredients

  • 1 c butter
  • 1 lb. brown sugar
  • 1 15 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 c. light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • dash of salt

Directions

Melt butter in heavy 3 qt. saucepan. Add sugar and salt, stir thoroughly. Stir in corn syrup-mix well. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, stirring constantly. Cook and stir over medium heat to 245°F on a candy thermometer,12-15 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla. Pour into a buttered pan,(9x9x2). Cool and cut into squares. DELICIOUS!
